She Can Digital & E-Mentoring Program
Empowering Young Women Through Technology, Skills, and Global Connections
Overview
Launched in September 2018, the She Can Digital Skills & E-Mentoring Program is RUWON Nepal’s flagship digital empowerment initiative designed to equip young women and girls with the knowledge, practical skills, confidence, and global exposure needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
The program addresses barriers to technology access, digital learning, and employment opportunities faced by young women from rural, marginalized, and low-income communities. Through structured digital skills training and international e-mentoring, participants gain the competencies needed to pursue higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, and active participation in the digital economy.
The program operates through two dedicated training centers:
- She Can Digital Center – Kapan, Kathmandu
- She Can Digital Center – Kalanki, Kathmandu
These centers primarily serve girls and young women from rural and underserved backgrounds who have limited access to quality digital education and technology resources.
Participants complete a comprehensive six-month certification program that combines foundational digital literacy, advanced web development skills, personal development, leadership training, and international mentoring opportunities.
Program Objectives
The She Can Digital Skills & E-Mentoring Program aims to:
- Improve digital literacy and technology skills among young women and girls.
- Increase access to education, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Strengthen leadership, communication, and professional competencies.
- Build confidence, independence, and self-reliance.
- Reduce the digital divide between rural and urban communities.

Six-Month Learning Pathway
The curriculum is delivered through two progressive phases that build both foundational and advanced digital competencies.
Phase 1: Foundational Digital Skills (Months 1–3)
The first phase focuses on essential computer and digital literacy skills designed for beginners and first-time technology users.

- File and data management
- Internet and web browsing skills
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Email and digital communication
- Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Forms)
- Online collaboration and productivity tools
- Cybersecurity and digital safety
- Social media literacy and responsible digital engagement
- Digital marketing fundamentals
- Emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools
- CV preparation and interview skills
Participants gain confidence using technology for education, communication, personal development, and everyday life.
Phase 2: Advanced Digital & Web Development Skills (Months 4–6)
The second phase focuses on technical and market-oriented skills that prepare participants for higher education, employment, freelancing, and entrepreneurship.

- UI/UX Design using Figma
- Website planning, wireframing, and prototyping
- HTML and CSS
- Responsive web development
- JavaScript programming
- Python programming
- Database fundamentals and management
- Cloud computing concepts
- Website hosting and deployment
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Project-based website development
- Final project presentation and evaluation
Participants gain hands-on experience designing, developing, and launching websites while building practical skills aligned with current technology industry demands.
International E-Mentoring Component
A unique feature of the program is its International E-Mentoring initiative, implemented in partnership with volunteer mentors from around the world.
Through structured online mentoring sessions, participants receive guidance, encouragement, and professional development support while building meaningful global connections.
Key mentoring topics include:

- Personal identity, self-awareness, and confidence building
- Goal setting, aspirations, and future planning
- Understanding personal strengths and potential
- Leadership development and decision-making
- Communication and presentation skills

Through these mentoring sessions, participants strengthen their ability to communicate effectively, set meaningful goals, overcome challenges, work collaboratively, and develop the confidence needed to pursue higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities.
Who Can Participate?
The program is designed for young women and girls who face barriers to accessing quality digital education and technology opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
- Be a Nepali female citizen.
- Be from a low-income, economically disadvantaged, or marginalized background.
- Be currently studying in a government school, community school, or public college, or have recently completed their studies.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in learning computer, digital, and technology skills.
- Be motivated to improve their educational, personal, and professional development.
- Be willing to participate actively and attend the full training program regularly.
Priority Consideration
Preference is given to:
- Young women and girls from rural and underserved communities.
- Students from government and community schools.
- First-time digital learners with limited access to technology.
- Young women who have migrated from rural districts to Kathmandu for education or employment opportunities.
- Applicants seeking digital skills for higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, or career advancement.
- Candidates recommended by their school, teacher, or community leader.

Program Achievements
Since its launch in 2018, the She Can Digital Program has created transformative opportunities for hundreds of young women and girls.
Training Results
- 475 women and girls participated in digital skills training.
- 285 participants successfully completed Foundational Digital Skills training.
- 190 participants completed Intermediate and Advanced Digital Skills training.
These achievements demonstrate strong learner commitment and the program’s effectiveness in supporting continuous skills development.
Current Reach
The program currently operates through two training centers in Kathmandu and delivers three cohorts annually.
- 58 participants per cohort
- 3 cohorts annually
- 174 young women and girls reached each year
Participants come primarily from rural, marginalized, and economically disadvantaged communities and receive both digital skills training and international e-mentoring support.
