Parents play the most important role in a child’s growth and development. Their guidance, encouragement, and involvement help children succeed not only in school but also in life.
With the support of Budhanilkantha Municipality, RUWON Nepal is implementing a Parental Awareness Programme in 18 community schools. The programme aims to strengthen parents’ knowledge and awareness so they can better support their children’s education, wellbeing, and overall development.
Many parents want the best for their children but often have limited access to information on positive parenting, adolescent development, child protection, mental wellbeing, and gender equality. Through this programme, RUWON Nepal creates opportunities for parents to learn, share experiences, and build stronger relationships with their children, schools, and communities.
We believe that when parents are informed and actively involved, children are more confident, motivated, and successful in their education. Girls, in particular, benefit greatly from supportive families that encourage them to learn, lead, and pursue their dreams.
Programme Objectives
The Parental Awareness Programme aims to:
- Promote positive parenting practices.
- Strengthen parental involvement in children’s education.
- Raise awareness of child rights and child protection.
- Encourage gender equality and equal educational opportunities for girls.
- Increase awareness of adolescent health and wellbeing.
- Improve communication between parents, teachers, and children.

- Strengthen collaboration between schools, families, and local communities.
Programme Activities
The programme includes a variety of interactive learning sessions and community activities, including:
- Parent orientation and awareness sessions
- Positive parenting workshops
- Child rights and child protection awareness
- Gender equality and girls’ education discussions
- Adolescent health and menstrual health awareness
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing sessions
- School-parent interaction meetings
- Community dialogue and experience-sharing sessions
The sessions are designed to encourage participation, open discussion, and practical learning so that parents can apply new knowledge in their daily lives.
